understanding biodiversity patterns
Our research focuses on how evolutionary processes produce past and present global biodiversity patterns and predicting how future global change will impact on wild nature. Most of our work has focused on mammals, especially bats.
modelling ecological processes
Our group has been examining the linkages between biodiversity and ecosystem services – in particular investigating how the loss of biodiversity impacts the emergence and transmission of diseases and understanding the macroecology of human emerging infectious diseases.

We also investigate how to improve current biodiversity monitoring to engage citizen scientists and develop new monitoring technologies and we have developed a number of citizen science projects to monitor bats globally using their acoustic signals.
